Parts of the Essay

  • questions for the readers to consider.
  • single sentence paragraphs.
  • interesting hook.
  • comparison to acceptable behavior.
  • vivid details.
  • literary devices. (figurative language)
  • dialogue.
  • nicknames.
  • understanding both sides of the issue.
  •  what do you think causes this behavior.

Tips

  •  Write a few descriptive sentences about why this particular thing really irks you.
  • Think of 1-3 examples of times when you observed someone engaging in this behavior. When did it happen? Where did it take place? What exactly did the person do? Describe the scene as vividly as you can.
  • Have you ever addressed the person doing this thing directly? If so, what did you say, and what happened? If not, why not?
  • What are some reasons why people engage in this behavior? Are they aware that it is bothersome to others?
  • What factors might foster this behavior? How might people be dissuaded from engaging in this behavior?

Movie Ruiners

Having pet peeves is a humongous issue. You won't believe what I had to face in a  movie theater. This is how it started. I was walking with my friends to watch a really cool movie that just came out. When I entered in the theater, I got my ticket and then the movie started. First I heard some baby crying which was alright with me. I could still understand the movie.

"What a crybaby," my friend exclaimed. "Yeah," I agreed.

Then I heard someone crunching yellow cheddar chips and standing up at a movie theater which is really annoying because you can't hear the movie well. Also you can't see the movie properly as there would be someone's humongous head blocking the view of everyone.  But from the person's behavior the movie couldn't be enjoyed and interested peacefully.

"What a show-off," my friend said turning mad.

"I know right," I replied. Now this whole thing was getting on to my nerve.

When there was a part in the movie which was really boring and I didn't want, I went directly to the loud chip-eater and movie-ruiner discussed to him about his problem. What he said was really shocking, because what he said was "move away, you're ruining the movie for everyone." That was his problem, not mine.

         Next kids were cheering.

You know when the superheroes win in a battle it is chaos with the kids, and that is exactly what was happening here.

"Omygosh," my friend told me in a not-so-good-mood. I want to get out of this place. I left with him because the rest of the movie was boring.

We should just watch a movie in a movie night and NEVER EVER go to a movie theater again!!! I told him.

        "Your right!" my friend agreed.

Some reasons why people engage this behavior is because they don't know what they are doing is a bad thing. They are not aware that this is bothersome to others because they think that it is a normal thing to do. People could tell the person to stop and that what he is doing is really disturbing. Everybody has a pet peeve and sometimes they could turn out to be horrible!

Sahil your essay was somewhat incomplete. also maybe you should add some hooks or some literary devices. I might also be better if you added some questions to ask the reader. I liked how you added a nick name. maybe you should add vivid details then the essay would be amazing. It was nice to now you pet peeves

Your essay should be a little longer, and your picture doesn't really match your story. Is your pet peeve babies crying in movies? I couldn't really tell, but you were at a good start!
