Dear reader,

I am a student from Bedminster School. I was pleased with the movie, Island of the Blue Dolphins which I watched recently.  The movie was good, but there are some problems that need to be fixed. With these problems fixed, the movie would be more interesting to watch. I believe that Universal Pictures should remake Island of the Blue Dolphins with the important scenes.

The main reason why this movie should be remade is that the original form neglected to add some important scenes from the book. In the book it stated that there was a tsunami which was really important, because Karana desperately tried to save her life. So if the movie included a tsunami then Karana, (a twelve year old girl) would have to find a way to survive which would be more interesting to watch. A second missing scene was when a devilfish had almost squeezed Rontu, (Karana's dog) to death. But Karana killed the (biggest) devilfish and saved Rontu's life. Also another missing scene was the battle of the sea elephants. Karana was fighting with the sea elephant, and she almost had herself killed. This should also be in the movie.

Something that was different in the movie was that Kimki, (the villager's leader) returns after his search for an island for the villagers. He was supposed to be lost, and a ship was supposed to take the villagers to some unknown island. When an Aleut girl named Tutok, became friends with Karana, Tutok told her when she was going to leave. It was not told in the book. Every year the Aleuts came to the Island of the Blue Dolphins, and hunted otter for their skins. One more thing is that when Karana figures out when Tutok leaves, she gives Tutok a bone as a present. These scenes changed the plot in the book.

Another problem is that there was pacing in the movie. First of all, Rontu-Aru (Rontu's son), grew up too fast in the movie. In the book Rontu-Aru was small when he left the island with Karana, which was at least one year when Karana met him. Karana also didn't change after Rontu-Aru grew. The battle with the Aleuts and the villagers was just too short, especially since the leader just got shot and so did the men, really quick. Only one arrow hit the Aleuts. Rontu died in a long time too. He did not die suddenly when he was supposed to.

Even though the movie was good, there were missing parts in the movie, which may not interest people who have already read the book already. If the main parts, are there people would enjoy watching it. This is why I believe Island of the Blue Dolphins should be remade.

                                                                         Sincerely,

                                                                                                    Sahil
