Onstage

Biting my nails nervously,
I went up to the very edge of the curtain.
Frozen in place,
not saying a word.
Listening as the audience sits in the theater seats,

Waiting for something... Anything.
After the loud roar from the audience,
courtesy of the last act,
just made us more nervous.
Paused... Paralyzed, almost,
but I get the nerve to do it.
I walk slowly onto the stage.
Smiling nervously,
TBAS follows.

Pounding hearts beat right out of our chests.
Introducing the song,
the guitar plays the chords twice.
After taking many breaths,
I start singing.
Waiting for her part,
the co-singer makes the timing just right for her time to belt out that final note.
Feeling that feeling in my gut,
the one when you feel when you know it's going to be alright,
is what we all felt when we were onstage.
