Producer,

I am a student at Bedminster Township Public School. In 1964, Universal Pictures produced a movie called "Island of the Blue Dolphins" the movie. In our reading/language arts class, we recently read the book and watched the movie afterwards. I am very dissatisfied with the movie and urge you to do a remake. I know you didn't make the movie, and because of this, maybe you'll have better results. I only say this because of the left out scenes, pacing, and music.

Important scenes from the book were left out from the book. And with the amount of technology we have today, I think that the current staff at Universal Pictures will be able to do this. Some important parts of the book that were left out in the movie were crucial of how Karana, the main character lived. The movie leaves three of the most meaningful action-filled parts in the book. For example, when Karana fights the devilfish, which seems to be an octopus, it bites Karana and has her dog, Rontu step in. Rontu almost drowns in this to-the-death battle. Another important forgotten scene is when Karana went on a voyage to the new island. She can't stand being alone for another minute on this island at this point. Finally, when Karana sees the two sea elephants fighting, she attempts to make the weapon. Even though she's risking to be crushed by the four wind of all directions, which is what is said to happen if a woman makes a weapon. All of these are great scenes that were neglected in the movie.

Another reason I want you to produce a remake of IBD is because the pacing and the time lapse. In the movie, you wouldn't even know if it's been a week or a year if you didn't real the book! Karana doesn't age AT ALL considering she'd been on the island for over 18 years. The story went from scene to scene very fast. The pacing and the time lapse were big problems of the movie.

Finally, the special effects were inaccurate. For example, the cannonball met with the sight of smoke. In reality, the smoke would come before the cannonball if, like in this case, the cannonball was about a half of a mile away. Also, they completely cut the earthquake and the tsunami! The Hollywood producers would know how to make that realistic enough for it to NOT be cut out.

In 1964, Universal Pictures produced a movie called "Island of the Blue Dolphins" the movie. After you have read my very detailed reasons on why Universal Pictures should do a remake on the award-winning "Island of the Blue Dolphins" written by Scott O' Dell.

Best regards,
