1203bm Norman Rockwell Story

Page history last edited by 1203BM 12 years ago

Paul and his friends, Joe and Steve, were going to the county pool today. It was a hot summer day that reached 103 degrees and school was just let out a week ago. Today was the perfect day to relax.

When they got to the pool, they saw the awesome new diving board. This would be the first summer season for the 20' high dive that the town installed.

All of the friends knew Paul was afraid of heights, so, they made a bet. If Paul could jump off that high dive, Joe and Steve would pay for his lunch at the concession stand. But, if he chickened out, he would have to buy both of them lunch.

"You guys believe that I'm still afraid of heights," Paul said, "I'm totally over that now." Paul lied. "Can we just jump in the pool and get used to the water first?"

"Sure, but the clock's ticking," Joe replied.

They jumped in the pool and hung out for a while. Paul kept hearing the noise in his ear, tick tick, tick tick, tick tick. He just wanted to get it over with, but he was too scared.

At about 11:30, they got out of the pool and started walking towards the the high dive.

"Are you ready to jump, chicken?" Steve said.

As Paul walked up the ladder, he wondered what it looked like once he got to the top. With each move up the ladder, he got more butterflies and each step felt like he was climbing up a mountain. When he got to the top and looked over, he almost fainted. He was so lightheaded that he lost his balance and fell off the diving board. He thought he'd never hit the water. But when he did hit it, it hurt.

Once he got out of the pool and dried off, he went to the concession stand for 2 cheeseburgers and a large order of fries.  Paul made sure that chicken was not part of his lunch menu.

Write it in the past tense. It already happened, so don't include the word today.
