The Hugger of Death

A new museum called the Hunters of the Wild Lands (HOWL) is seeking nominations for exhibits to be placed in their displays. The museum directors are seeking predators that deserve recognition. Lions, wolves, falcons, and sharks are sure to come to mind when thinking of a predator. However, the boa constrictor is one of the most skilled hunters in the world. The boa constrictor deserves recognition in the HOWL museum.

One of the reasons that the boa constrictor is a skilled predator is its amazing senses. The boa constrictor's eyes can see in the pitch black with their infrared vision. They also have a great sense of smell through their tongue. The best sense the boa constrictor has is that it can sense heat via cells in their lips. The boa constrictor has the greatest senses in the jungle.

A second reason that the boa constrictor is a skilled predator is its great hunting methods. The boa constrictor doesn't bite its prey to kill it, it squeezes it until it suffocates. They know the prey is dead because they have the ability to sense heartbeats! Unlike most snakes, the boa constrictor swallows the prey whole. This snake has the most exotic hunting methods.

A final reason the boa constrictor is a great predator is its great camouflage. Boa Constrictors come in many different colors and patterns including tan, brown, black, red or even pink! With the colors they have, the boa constrictor can find a safe haven almost anywhere in his natural habitat. Some great places that they can blend in are the trees of the jungle and the good soil of the rainforest.

Even though you think of poisonous snakes as the best predators, the boa constrictor is also a very skilled predator. A black mamba might be an amazing predator, but the boa constrictor is very predatorily skilled. Has this changed your mind about predators? I think this snake definitely deserves more recognition.
