Predators of the Night
HOWL stands for Hunters of the Wild Lands. The HOWL Museum is seeking nominations for exhibits to be placed in its displays. Owls can hunt there prey with ease. I think owls deserve a spot in the HOWL exhibit.Owls are skilled predictors that deserve recognition the HOWL Museum.
One reason owls are such great predators is because they can see and hear well in the dark. This allows them to hunt nocturnal mammals such as shrews, mice, and voles. Did you know owls have better night vision than any other animal? Owls have a keen sense of hearing because of the disc-like feathers on their faces which funnel sounds to their ears.
Another reason that owls can take a near silent flight so their prey cannot here them coming. Why? Because owls can swoop down on there prey because the tips of there feathers are fine like fur. Owls are stealth-like in their approach to prey.
Finally the have razor sharp talons and beak. Owls have long sharp talons which make them successful hunters. Three the front in the back pointing forward to enclose and pierce there prey to insure it dose not escape. Owls use there beak to rip there food apart to make it easier to eat if they cannot eat it in one gulp. Then they regurgitate the fur and the bones into what is called a pellet.
Even though owls aren’t known as a predator, I still think the HOWL Museum should choose the owl species as their topic for there exhibit. After all these reason, don’t you think the owl should be apart of the Museum? Besides there skilled predators! Owls are skilled predictors that deserve recognition the HOWL Museum.
